"Make the checkout better." What do you do with that?

Answer it out loud before you open anything. The value of the flags below is in comparing them to what you actually said — including whether you asked who uses it before naming what you would build it with.

The situation behind the question

A product lead drops a ticket titled "Make checkout better" into your queue. The body says: "Customers complain. Conversion is lower than we want. Please look into it." There is a dashboard nobody trusts and a support inbox nobody reads.

React to this

Say what you would question, what you would keep, and what you would need to know first.

  Priority: High
  Reporter: Product lead

Please look into it. Maybe a one-page checkout like the
         big retailers? Also Apple Pay."

Support inbox, last 30 days, tagged "checkout": 214 messages, uncategorised

What it is really testing

Whether the candidate can turn a vague goal into an explicit problem before doing anything else — and whether they can tell a goal ("conversion up") from an implementation ("one-page checkout") when the stakeholder blurs the two.
